Dr. Boyce Watkins Slams D.L. Hughley's new show
My thoughts on 'D.L. Hughley Breaks the News': The first week wasn't that good. D.L. seemed very nervous hosting the show and overall it wasn't funny. I'm going to give the show another week to get it together. He may need a co-host because I think he does better playing off another person. I like on the edge comedy like Dave Chappelle but the first week wasn't hitting it. Using Ashy Larry as Freddie Mac (Donnell Rawlings) from the Chappelle show was an OK attempt at being edgy, but D.L. needs to bring it on his next show. But I wonder, if Berne Mac did the same thing, would folks think it was funny...
A few years back, D.L. Hughley was fired as a morning host on (Stevie Wonder owned) KJLH; when he made a joke on the air about how raggedy the studio was and even Stevie should be able to see that.
Rev. Al Sharpton goes after New York Post for publishing 'racist' column about Plaxico Burress
Post columnist Steve Serby began his column in Monday's editions with "Good for Tom Coughlin. Good for Coughlin for tightening the noose around Plaxico Burress."
Burress has been fined and benched by the Giants for infractions including tardiness and missing practices. On Saturday, the wide receiver skipped a treatment for his neck, and was benched during the first quarter of the Giants' win in Pittsburgh Sunday.

ABC will not air half-hour Obama ad in order to save a low-rated show
ABC TV will air "Pushing Daisies" in its usual time period tonight instead of the Barack Obama half-hour ad from 8-8:30 pm. The Obama campaign purchased a half hour of airtime on NBC, Fox and CBS, spending about $1 million per network. So ABC rejected the money to air what? I wonder how "Pushing Daisies" will do with no competition from the other three major televsion networks. (Zzzzzzz)
KDAY drops The Mo'Nique Show
"The Mo'Nique Show" is no longer being carried by '93.5 The Beat FM' (KDAY) Los Angeles. As of now KDAY is going with all music during the 1-4pm slot. The remainder of the syndicated lineup stays in tact with the Steve Harvey Morning Show," "The Wendy Williams Experience," "The Michael Baisden Show" and "The Keith Sweat Hotel."

Skinhead Plot To Assassinate Barack Obama
Two white supremacists allegedly plotted to go on a national killing spree, shooting and decapitating black people and ultimately targeting Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama. In all, the two men whom officials describe as neo-Nazi skinheads planned to kill 88 people and 14 by beheading, according to documents unsealed in U.S. District Court in Jackson, Tenn. The numbers 88 and 14 are symbolic in the white supremacist community.

Former XM Radio Host says some channels on XM will end on November 14th
Well folks, I know a lot of you have been asking what is going on, why was I laid off, what will become of the channel and Russ etc etc. I now have some answers for you… and I am ready to talk about them. Admittedly it took me some time to decompress and adjust to no longer being a part of the one thing that I sunk every bit of my time, passion and effort into for the last seven years. Read more>>
Jesse Jackson set to replace Obama
"If Senator Obama wins — and I'm optimistic that he will — I indeed would be honored and humbled to succeed him in the U.S. Senate. But, in the end, the decision rests with Gov. Blagojevich, and I'm confident that he'll make an appointment in the best interest of the state as well as the nation," Jackson said in a statement.
Not sure what Jesse Sr. is set up to replace these days.

The Hockey Mom is a JINX! Don't invite her to a NHL Hockey Game
Almost two weeks ago, Palin was booed prior to the Philadelphia Flyers and New York Rangers hockey game. The Flyers went on to lose the game. In fact, the Flyers had been winless until last night, when they won their first game of the year over the New Jersey Devils, 6-3.
While the Flyers were winning, Palin made her second appearance at a NHL hockey game between the St. Louis Blues and the Los Angeles Kings. Blues goalie Manny Legace left after one period Friday night with a hip injury that occurred when he slipped on the carpet placed on the ice for Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin.
Legace described the injury as a strained left hip flexor. He doesn’t believe it is serious but said it is painful. He said he won’t play Saturday when the Blues host Florida, but wasn’t sure if he’d miss any additional games. “I felt a pull right away,” Legace said. “I was hoping it would just go away.”

McCain Campaign Volunteer Lied About Attack
Pittsburgh police say a McCain campaign volunteer made up a story of being robbed, pinned to the ground and having the letter "B'' scratched on her face in a politically inspired attack.
Maurita Bryant, the assistant chief of the police department's investigations division, says 20-year-old Ashley Todd is being charged with making a false report to police.
Todd, of College Station, Texas, initially said a 6-foot-4 black man robbed her at knifepoint Wednesday night and then cut her cheek after seeing a McCain sticker on her car.
Earlier Friday, police said there were "inconsistencies" in her story and gave her a polygraph test.
Radio Exec says the Record and Radio Industry are CLUELESS!!!
Just like this constestant on the Price is Right, maybe they'll figure it out in the end...
They just don't get it. The record industry is broken beyond repair. The radio industry exists only for an older available generation. We see poor decisions by executives in these two industries based on their inability to see what the next generation wants.
For example, in their day radio and record CEOs saw how well the simple process of finding new acts, pressing records and promoting them on radio worked. It was a beneficial relationship for both sides no matter what their rhetoric may be today. But now, record execs cannot grasp that free downloading is their friend and that they need -- no will absolutely benefit -- from reinventing their business model. Did Pulse 87 use Star and Buc Wild?
"It's about stationality," said program director Joel Salkowitz, meaning the station wants the same sound whenever a listener tunes in.
Now when will other radio stations work to do something different like Pulse 87. There are listeners out there searching for a format that appeals to them. The problem is that terrestrial radio doesn’t know how to reach them. Satellite radio may have to close shop before long, because they're so much in debt. They need to realize all the work listeners are putting in just to program their MP3 or iPod, even if they're downloading for free.
As for Star, he will take some time off to rest. He had a liver transplant less than a year ago, about six weeks before he started the gig at Pulse 87. How he was able to do a daily radio show was amazing.
By the way boys and girls this behavior will get you a liver transplant before you're 40:
Reese Hopkins "Crossover" charged with rape
Did radio station WRKO know about the impending arrest before they fired him for "budget cost" reasons on Monday?
Boston Herald Former WRKO yakker Reese Hopkins, who was laid off last week from his midmorning radio slot, was ordered held without bail today and will be transported to New York City to face charges that he raped a 12-year-old girl, according to the New York district attorney’s office and police.Hopkins, 39, is charged with one count of first-degree rape and one count of second-degree rape, said Manhattan district attorney spokeswoman Jennifer Kushner. Obama goes on Clear Channel Urban Radio Stations
Barack Obama was interviewed by Ed Gordon across the nation via Clear Channel urban radio stations on Tuesday. Let's cut to the chase. Is it ever OK to criticize Sen. Barack Obama? If you listen to the interview, Obama clearly avoids answering the questions regarding his agenda in helping "poor people". Let's face it. Black communities are in terrible shape. If the middle class is doing bad, then what is going on in the communities that are barely surviving. Poor communities need jobs. They need incentives to start businesses that can hire workers. Infrastructure in poor communities needs to be repaired as well.
Obama has avoided in his public interviews any mention of what he would specifically do for cities and poor rural areas in the country. However he never seems to miss the opportunity to mention how Black men and the Black community as a whole must take responsibility for their actions or say how we need to put more police on the streets. There is nothing wrong with that. But Obama needs to spell out what he would do to give an economic boost in poorer communities and not just what he would do for the middle class and Main Street. Otherwise he is giving us the same "trickle down theory" that Republicans say we should follow in terms of money from the rich funneling down to the middle class. We need a president that can change things economically, not a moral leader to tell us what's wrong with us. OK that's it, my two cents, now back to your regular scheduled program.

Chris Matthews Takes Rush Limbaugh to Task
Rush Limbaugh needs to be removed from the public airwaves for his racist tirade against Colin Powell. By the way Chris Matthews' guest, Michael Smerconish, a Republican and conservative talk show host, endorsed Barack Obama also.
Personally I believe Rush is setting the bait for the entire country to get into a racial trap in order to get John McCain elected. Now will Rev. Al and Jesse stay quiet? Will the media give this story legs? We shall see...
Dolemite has died
Rudy Ray Moore, the self-proclaimed "Godfather of Rap" who influenced generations of rappers and comedians with his rhyming style, braggadocio and profanity-laced routines, has died. He was 81. Moore, whose low-budget films were panned by critics in the 1970s but became cult classics decades later, died Sunday night in Toledo, Ohio, of complications from diabetes, his brother Gerald told the Associated Press.Though he was little known to mainstream audiences, Moore had a significant effect on comedians and hip-hop artists.
"People think of black comedy and think of Eddie Murphy," rap artist Luther Campbell of 2 Live Crew told the Miami Herald in 1997. "They don't realize [Moore] was the first, the biggest underground comedian of them all. I listened to him and patterned myself after him."And in the liner notes to the 2006 release of the soundtrack to Moore's 1975 motion picture "Dolemite," hip-hop artist Snoop Dogg said:
"Without Rudy Ray Moore, there would be no Snoop Dogg, and that's for real."

Announcement Coming From Pulse 87 Soon... they have listeners
New York Dance Music station Pulse 87.7 (WNYZ-LP) is expected to make a BIG announcement soon. We wonder if the station will continue to exist or move to another frequency? In February 2009 the government mandates that all TV signals will broadcast in digital instead of analog. As it stands now the station broadcast only 10 miles around NYC on the audio portion of Low-Power television station VHF channel 6 and 87.7 FM. The big announcement can't be about the Star and Bucwild Morning Show.Meanwhile Arbitron announced that it has released the first station ratings report using PPM for Pulse 87. The station recorded more than a half million listeners per weekdays. That's pretty good for a station that some radios can't even pick up. Some radios stop at 87.9 FM. Check yours.

13,000 Internet Radio Stations Inside a USB Thumb Drive
Another software company develops an app to compete with the good ole radio. Now comes word that Aluratek’s USB Internet Radio Jukebox will deliver music on more than 13,000 Web radio stations worldwide.Instead of forcing listeners to hunt down Internet radio stations site by site, Aluratek’s device stores station information and listening software on a USB thumb drive. Insert the Jukebox into your computer’s USB port and you’re set: an iTunes-like user interface allows you to search through thousands of stations.
The thumb drive, which requires Windows 2000, XP or Vista and Internet Explorer 6 or higher, lets you search for music in 150 countries, by genre or geography (Kazakh rock, anyone?). You can also store selected stations to a favorites folder and search for the top 10 radio stations in each country.
The Jukebox also finds and removes low-bandwidth broadcasts to ensure high audio quality and, at $40, it doesn’t require any subscription fees. The New York Times article states "Sounds like some Sirius competition..."
Look for this technology to really take off, when automobile internet access becomes the norm rather than the exception.

D.L. turns CNN to BNN on Saturday Night-- Hmmm... Where's Roland Martin?
When news breaks, D.L. Hughley will be ready to mock it.CNN announced that it will premiere a new, "unconventional" weekend show hosted by comedian D.L. Hughley. "D.L. Hughley Breaks the News," as the show is currently titled, will feature Hughley's humorous take on the week's events.
It will also include interviews with newsmakers and reporters, according to the network. "D.L. Hughley Breaks the News" is scheduled to debut Saturday, October 25.
"I am very excited for the opportunity to work with the network that I have watched for a very long time, and that to a large extent, has shaped my comedic view," Hughley said in a press release. "CNN offers the perfect blend of news and information on a local, national and international level. What more can a comedian ask for?"
The show will resemble the late-night talk shows of Jay Leno and David Letterman more than Jon Stewart's "Daily Show," according to Hughley.
Hughley is known for his acting and his standup performances. The comedian spent four seasons on his own sitcom, "The Hughleys," and was one of the stars of Aaron "West Wing" Sorkin's series, "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip."

Deep Cuts at XM Satellite Radio
From DCRTV The Washington, DC based website reported that XM Satellite Radio was on the verge of making massing cuts following its summer merger with rival Sirius.
On Tuesday evening, DCRTV received this from an XM source: "All the great people that are gone from XM radio, may we all RIP... Let's go back and take the terrestial world by storm... Gone but not forgotten: '50s Channel PD Ken Smith, '50s Channel MD Matt The Cat, '60s Channel PD Pat Clark, '80s Channel MD/afternooner Kandy Klutch, Cross-Country PD Jessie Scott, Decades Channel Senior PD Kurt Gilcrest, Cafe PD Bill Evans, all of XM Urban accept three people."
Also among the 50-ish employees cut Tuesday: George Taylor Morris of Deep Tracks, '70s-On-7's John Clay; Billy Zero and Tobi from XMU, Ethel's Erik Range and Rick Lambert, and Bill Hutton of Lucy.
DCRTV reports that another round of cuts could be coming in early November. The word is that Sirius XM suits have abandoned plans to continue separate line-ups for each service, and instead will feature one common channel line-up on both systems. With the Sirius music channel versions probably being offered on both.

Jackson was scheduled to resume her tour Monday night at the Turning Stone Resort in New York after canceling a show over the weekend in Connecticut.
A message posted on the resort and casino's Web site stated the show had been canceled at the advice of Jackson's doctor. She has since postponed several shows, including Thursday night's show at Madison Square Garden in New York. Promoters say the dates will be rescheduled.
No one is saying what is ailing Jackson, who was rushed to a hospital in Montreal before a concert in late September. Jackson is on her first North American tour in seven years.

A tribute to a caller simply known as "Fred"
"Fred Signs Off" by Karen WarringtonBLACK TALK radio in Philadelphia is often an over-the-back-fence kind of conversation.
For at least three decades, the African-American community has exchanged the latest news, gossip or social outrage daily on WDAS, WHAT or WURD. The strength of black talk is that it is an essentially private within-the-group dialogue in a public venue transmitted on a radio frequency.
While the hosts changed over the years, many of the callers remained constant. The stalwarts, past and present, with their descriptive radio names include:
Miss Ann (the Penn Fruit Lady), Leon Williams, Beverly, Brittany, Miss Ruth Helen, Pam Africa, Hannibal, Hotep, Wayne Moore, Barbara Jean Hope, Ron from North Philly, Ron from Nicetown, Rob from Mount Airy, Brother Rob, Brother Kentu, Brother Okane, Mr. Willie, Sister Dee, Sister Carol, Sister Aminah Hotep, Louise (Mommy) Hannibal, Mr. Osiris, Big Jim from West Philly, Darrell Hinton, Leola, Joey, Jerome Avery, Momma Sally, Carl, Mr. Knox, Sacaree Rhodes, Rev. Joe, Miss Laurie, Mr. Peel, Miss Bell, Flagman . . . and then there was Fred.
He was omnipresent. While he never tried to be politically correct, he was always consistent. He was angry, and he wanted the world to know it. But as we listened to his rants, we understood that his anger didn't come from a place of hate. In a way, he represented the pent-up frustrations of his community. Read more>>
Last week, just hours after calling Reggie Bryant's radio program on 900 AM WURD, Fred suffered a heart attack and died at age 53.
Arbitron is Getting Their A** Sued by the Government
New York attorney general Andrew M. Cuomo has announced that his office has filed a lawsuit in New York County Supreme Court against Arbitron.
The Coalition of NYC Hispanic and Black Broadcasters, along with Congresswoman Nydia M. Velázquez (D-NY), held a press conference on October 10 on the steps of the New York City Hall in opposition of the PPM roll out. According to the Congresswoman, Arbitron's PPM ratings "drastically cut numbers for minority radio stations and demonstrated that the company is out of touch with minority listeners," and "the new system threatens to force Spanish-language and urban programming off the air, eliminating a critical voice for New York City."
