Unity Day 2009 on the Parkway - City of Philadelphia will issue permit to community group despite Clear Channel's efforts to block it

Looks like the 30 year tradition of the Unity Day event will proceed and return to the Ben Franklin Parkway without any radio affiliation or major corporate sponsors. The organization is lining up independent artists for entertainment with local vendors providing food and other services.

Unity Day on the Parkway, Inc. received notice on July 23, 2009 that the City of Philadelphia will issue the “Unity Day” permit for August 23, 2009 after Clear Channel’s Radio Station WDAS 105.3 FM, attempted to stop the permit application last week.

Last week, Clear Channel attempted to claim Trademark rights to “Unity Day” with the City of Philadelphia, in an attempt to stop the City from issuing a Special Event permit to the local organization. Unity Day on the Parkway, Inc. requested the permit after Clear Channel announced cancellation of the Unity Day event on June 3, 2009.
