Black Radio Has Great Value Especially the Urban AC Format

There’s “relatively little duplication” between urban and urban AC formats, says The Media Audit – and both formats generate strong listener loyalty.

The August “FYI” update from researcher Media Audit says “urban formats offer value beyond ratings data.” Its specialty is qualitative, and here are some snippets – Urban AC listeners “earn an average household income of $61,255, while the median age is 40 and 59% are female.” Not only that, “more than half consider themselves to be ‘financial optimists.’” 14% of them plan to make a domestic vehicle purchase in the next 12 months, “a figure that is double the rate for the typical adult.”

Encouraging news for urban radio programmers, who didn't know that Black people LOVE their radio?; however such a report suggest that the traditional urban AC playlist will be maintained. I'm honestly thinking how long will daily doses of Keith Sweat, Anita Baker, and Atlantic Starr continue to dominate what is thought of as Urban Adult Comtemporary music.
