The First Annual WEEN Awards Hosted by MC Lyte and Terrence J

The Women in Entertainment Empowerment Network (WEEN online.org) will honor award-winning actor, Vivica A. Fox; actor/author Hill Harper; actor/philanthropist Malinda Williams; Chief Global Diversity Officer of McDonald's Corporation, Pat Harris; EVP of Urban Marketing for Universal Motown, Shanti Das; and HIV/AIDS Activist, Maria Davis at the First Annual WEEN Awards.

Hosts include entertainment icon MC Lyte and national television personality/actor Terrence J. Presenters include media personalities Angie Martinez, Rocsi, Jeff Johnson, Alesha Renee, Big Tigger and WEEN Chair Valeisha Butterfield. Scholarships will be granted to two deserving college students in the DC area by WEEN.

The First Annual WEEN Awards will honor individuals with a proven commitment to the empowerment of women worldwide. The Awards will serve as an annual fundraiser to support the on-going non-profit, educational programs for women, of all ages and races, of the Women in Entertainment Empowerment Network (WEEN).

It all takes place Friday, September 25, 2009 (during the Annual Legislative Caucus Weekend) with the Pink Carpet between 5:00 - 6:00 PM and Awards Reception from 6:00 - 9:00 PM at the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) Building located at 1025 F Street, N.W., 10th Floor in Washington, D.C.

The Women in Entertainment Empowerment Network, WEEN is a worldwide coalition of women, all ages and races, committed to supporting, promoting and defending the balanced, positive portrayal of women in entertainment and in society. Led by Chair, Valeisha Butterfield and Co-Founders Kristi Henderson, Sabrina Thompson and Lauren Lake, WEEN is a non-profit, global organization.
