NOW Sam Sylk is back on the air at Chicago's Power 92.3

More than four years ago Power 92.3 (WPWX) planned to hire 107.5 WGCI's afternoon jock Sam Sylk. When things didn't work out, Sam became morning man at Power 99 in Philly. After Philly, Sam was the afternoon host at Z109.7 (WENZ) in Cleveland.

Then came the news: Crawford Broadcasting announced Sylk was returning to Chicago as WPWX's new afternoon drive host, effective Monday July 20th. He was replacing Donnie Devoe, who left the station on June 29th.

“I am so excited to join my new radio family," Sylk said in a statement. "Power 92 is a station that’s dedicated to giving Chicago real radio for Chicago. I can’t wait to be a part of this all-star line up."

But then something happened... Radio One evoked a "non-compete" clause we hear and prevented Sam from getting on the air in Chicago. Basically it states that Sam Sylk could not go on the air and compete against another Radio One station in the same state. Well how can that be? Radio One doesn't have a station in Chicago or Illinois???

But Power 92.3 is based in nearby Hammond, Indiana and there's Radio One stations in Indianapolis. Even though Sam was the afternoon host on Radio One's Cleveland station Z107.9. Yeah we know that's OHIO!

But now everything has worked itself out and Chicago is ready to welcome back Sam with open arms.

  1. Power 92.3 is based in Indiana, not Chicago. R1 has stations in Indianapolis.

  2. @Anonymous: please read the ENTIRE story before posting. The writer clearly states that Power 92.3 "is based in nearby Hammond, IN" near the end of the blog...
