Edwards Buys Radio Station for Pittsburgh's African-American Community

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Pittsburgh broadcaster Eddie Edwards Sr. announced he has purchased local radio station WPYT-AM (660) to launch a news and talk format geared toward African Americans.

Along with the 90-day waiting period for FCC approval, Mr. Edwards needs to secure and build studio space. He estimates an early January launch for the new station.

At a news conference this afternoon, Mr. Edwards noted that the local African-American community has been disenfranchised by the sale of WAMO-FM and WAMO-AM, which were the Pittsburgh market's source of music, news and information aimed primarily at that audience.
