Update: Tom Joyner not leaving Soul 106.3, TJMS will Simulcast on Two Stations

Previously we posted the Chicagoland Radio and Media report that indicated The Tom Joyner Morning show would be moving over to Power 92 WPWX and leaving Soul 106.3.

Well that's not quite the case. The TJMS gives us an update...

Dallas, TX – June 2, 2010 – Starting Wednesday, June 2nd, Tom Joyner will extend his broadcast reach on radio when his syndicated show simulcasts on WPWX-FM POWER 92 (92.3). The Tom Joyner Morning Show is currently heard on WSRB-FM Soul 106 (106.3) and will now air on both stations from 5am to 9am CST. Power 92‘s current morning man Trey Da Choklit Jok will move to 9am -12noon. Also, dayparts Shawn Knight will be heard from 12noon -3pm and Sam Sylk 3pm -6pm. The move provides the Tom Joyner Morning Show more expanded Chicago and Northwest Indiana market coverage which will answer all of his listeners’ requests of more than a year now to have Joyner heard throughout the entire Chicagoland.

Joyner is overjoyed with the expansion of his show to the sister station of SOUL 106.3 stating, “Finally listeners don’t have to drive with their computers to hear us when they leave the South Side.”

While the outcry from Chicago listeners about his sudden absence from his previous home station of 13 years flooded emails, websites, texts and phone messages a year ago, Joyner always maintained that he would be back home in “the mothership market” before long.

“Tom Joyner is Chicago Radio!” said Program Director Jay Alan. “He is a huge voice for our community and we believe a voice this big is a benefit to all our listeners and that is why the Tom Joyner Morning Show is being expanded to Power 92!”

Chicago was the first radio market that signed on to the Tom Joyner Morning Show when the program and its message started, eventually growing to the more than 100 markets that it serves today, reaching approximately one in four African-Americans. The Chicago listener following continues to be strong and his reach throughout the community is unmatched. Joyner will continue to empower, inform and entertain in a way that celebrates Black radio.

Maybe Steve Harvey should be sayin' "Watch Out There Now!" , now that Tom Joyner can be heard all over Chicago.

Here's a classic routine from TJMS' J. Anthony Brown on Russell Simmon's Def Comedy Jam from the 90's. --How many comedians benefitted greatly from the national exposure that show provided?
