Rapper M.I.A. Tweets Writer's Phone Number; Why? She's Just Controversial

M.I.A. sent a tweet to her followers disclosing Lynn Hirschberg's, a New York Times journalist, phone number after a cover story for the Sunday magazine was published. Needless to say M.I.A. did not like the story.

Tom Joyner Makes Another Big Move in Chicago

It's time for Tom Joyner to get more fly as he makes the move to Urban mainstream station Power 92 on June 1st.

The website Chicagoland Radio and Media is reporting that The Tom Joyner Morning Show will leave Soul 106.3 WSRB for a better signal over at Power 92 WPWX. The station features morning personality Trey Da Choklit Jock, who will move into the 9:00-12 noon slot, and Afternoon jock Sam Sylk.

Radio One's Barry Mayo to the Rescue in Cincinnati

Big shake-up in the front offices at Radio One’s stations here: Regional VP Rick Porter and VP/GM Lisa Thal over WIZ, MOJO and gospel WDBZ-AM were fired Monday. Whatever happen was so serious that Radio One’s radio division president himself — Barry Mayo — from the Maryland corporate office is here running WIZF-FM (101.1), WMOJ-FM (100.3) and WDBZ-AM (1230).

Michel Martin Returns to NPR's "Tell Me More" to Give Commentary on Brother's Suicide

Tell Me More host Michel Martin spoke about her brother's recent suicide after a two week absence from the program. Her commentary, Maybe Someday Love Will Cure Despair begins: "I want to talk about something really hard for me. (The subject may not be appropriate for our younger listeners, so you can be ready to turn the dial if you see fit.)

The newspaper blog, Richard Prince's Journal-ism reports on Roland Martin's efforts to secure the soon to be empty hour-long hosting chair prior to the Larry King Show on CNN.


Current host Campbell Brown has decided to leave the slot due to low ratings. Meanwhile the radio news and information program, "Upfront with Tony Cox" ends it's run on several HBCU public radio stations across the country.

The magazine takes a look at Aubrey Drake Graham, born in Toronto, Ontario. Drake got his showbiz start playing Jimmy Brooks, the wheelchair-bound former basketball player on the Canadian teen drama "Degrassi: The Next Generation."

The National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) Announce Finalists for its 2010 Salute to Excellence Awards

The competition honors work from print, television, radio, online, and photojournalism. Winners will be announced Saturday, July 31, 2010 at a gala celebration during NABJ's 35th Annual Convention and Career Fair in San Diego.

Journalist of the Year Award will be presented to CNN's Soledad O'Brien. NBC News and its Local TV Stations will be honored also with the NABJ's Best Practices Award.

Atlanta Midday Personalities Kiss 104 Cynthia Young and Majic 107.5 Carol Blackmon Profiled

Carol Blackmon and Cynthia Young met in their hometown of Buffalo, N.Y., in the early 1980s. Their friendship has remained intact despite the fact the two women go head to head as midday radio personalities at competing Old School R&B stations in Atlanta.

Blackmon follows “The Steve Harvey Morning Show” on Radio One's Majic 107.5, and Young follows “The Tom Joyner Morning Show” on Cox Radio's Kiss 104.1. Read more in the AJC

Judge Rules Against Trae tha Truth and for Radio One Houston's 97.9 The Box

Judge tells rapper to start his own radio station and says Radio One doesn't have to play his music... but it's not over yet.

According to the site Boombox, Houston rapper Trae tha Truth's attempted injunction against local station 97.9 KBXX The Box has been rejected by a local judge.

103.5 The Beat Miami is Replaced by Spanish AC Music Format

Clear Channel Radio has replaced Urban station “103.5 the Beat” (WMIB) with an adult contemporary Spanish music format “103.5 Super X, Mi music 80s, 90s y hoy”, music of the 80's, 90's, and more.

With the format change WMIB drops the The Steve Harvey Show in the morning along with long time radio personality Prince Markie Dee, who was a founding member of the 80's rap group The Fat Boys.

File Sharing Company LimeWire Liable for Copyright Infringement

The RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) wins big in their lawsuit against LimeWire.

U.S. Federal Court in New York ruled that LimeWire, and founder Mark Gorton committed copyright infringement, engaged in unfair competition, and induced copyright infringement.

RIAA is saying that LimeWire should be liable for $150,000 for each, that's right each copyrighted worked that was shared.

Star and Buc Wild Adds Another Streaming Site

The Star and Buc Wild Show has added Vlad TV to their nightly streaming show. The webcast originates from Shovio.com.

Shovio is a new media video chatroom broadcast like Ustream with video content that is exclusive to the web rather than a "look in" approach. The show also has the ability to interview guests from remote locations.

The entertainment report will provide the latest buzz and hot topics from a diverse mix of celebrities in film, music , sports and television. Wendy's “Hot Topics” will air Monday-Friday on selected stations across the country.

Brian McKnight leaves the morning show at 94.7 The Wave

McKnight sites his inability to perform concerts during the week as the reason for his departure.

According to the following press release from Los Angeles' Smooth Jazz station KTWV 94.7 The Wave, Brian McKnight will continue to periodically appear on the morning show and will contribute to other Wave projects and events.

This makes the second radio gig that McKnight has lost. He was working simultaneously as the syndicated evening host for Citadel at 98.7 Kiss FM in New York with Lenny Green until last January while doing the morning show in L.A. You can still catch Brian McKnight on his own TV talk/variety show. Have you seen it?

Remembering Lena Horne 1917 - 2010

Born on June 30, 1917, Lena Horne was considered one of the most beautiful women in the world. She came to the attention of Hollywood in 1942 and was the first black woman to sign a meaningful long-term contract with a major studio, a contract that said she would never have to play a maid.

Horne died at the age of 92 on May 9 at the New York-Presbyterian Hospital in New York City.



Here are just a few snippets from her career in entertainment including her ability to transcend her status as a celebrity to become a fighter for civil rights.

Roland Martin responds to Jon Stewart poking fun at his ascot

A distinguished looking Roland Martin wearing an ascot... a step up from his days as a talk show host at 1690 WVON Chicago. He probably wears an ascot during his TJMS segments...

Jon Stewart spent five minutes on "The Daily Show" discussing CNN's Roland Martin and his genteel, on-air ascot. Stewart can barely contain himself for most of the segment, saying, "It may be my favorite thing I've seen on CNN."

The press conference of Trae the Truth Lawsuit Against Radio One

Video from the press conference held in downtown Houston. The lawsuit alleges that Radio One and local station 97.9 The Box banned the music of rapper Trae The Truth from being played on the station. That is just one of a list of allegations including DJ's being fired. The Box is the only hip hop station in Houston.

A Funny Bit from The Big Tigger Morning Show

The build-up and the aftermath of last weekend's Floyd Mayweather - Shane Mosely fight left many boxing fans pretty disappointed. The fight turned out not to be much of a fight, but the following bit from the WPGC morning turned out pretty good. The bit features Big Tigger, Danella, and Donnell Rawlings AKA Ashy Larry. It's not quite the Chappelle Show, but as far as morning show bits are concern, this is pretty good. ...and much better than the replay of the fight this weekend.

Ernie Harwell, the voice of the Detroit Tigers Dies at 92

Like legendary music radio DJ's of the past, long time baseball announcers become the fabric of the daily lives for so many people. Especially in this case for the people of Detroit. The intimacy of radio lends itself to this unique position that a radio personality has. The humbleness and kind demeanor of this man are impressive. It's one of the reasons he became a beloved announcer.


The following video was a tribute to Ernie Harwell from last September. He had known that he was dying from cancer at the time. The tribute came eight years after his last broadcast for the Detroit Tigers in 2002.

A source says that the Black owned radio network, American Urban Radio Network, invited both Wendy Williams and Omarosa to the White House Correspondents Dinner on Saturday night.
