Golden Boy Returns to Philly Radio on WRNB

Glenn "Golden Boy"Cooper hosts Friday and Saturday nights from 7:00 to midnight on "The Golden Club" on Radio One's Philadelphia Urban AC station 107.9 WRNB. Cooper will continue to hold down his weekend slot at “Majic 102” KMJQ in Houston as well. Golden Boy, as Program Director and jock along with a great air staff; helped to propel urban station Power 99 in Philly to heritage status throughout the 90's.

Here's more from the 107.9 WRNB website RNBPhilly.com:

Glenn "Golden Boy" Cooper hailed out of Houston, TX as Houston's No. #1 6-10 night jock. He then moved to Philadelphia in 1993 as the host of the hottest Philadelphia radio 6-10 pm Night Show “The G-Spot“, making him Philadelphia's #1 night jock for 5 consecutive years. Golden Boy then moved to the afternoon drive, where his show was renamed "Gold in the Afternoons". Gold took afternoons from #3 straight to No. #1 on the first book and remained #1 for another 4 years. In 2002 he took over as the lead jock for Philadelphia’s hottest morning show "The Dream Team", there he took the morning show to the No. # 1 position.

In 2004 Gold moved to Midday's, and took his show from #3 to the No. # 1 spot. Gold has won numerous awards in the radio industry; Music Director of the Year, Assistant Program Director of the Year and was nominated as Billboard Magazine’s Program Director of the Year. With over 25 years in radio, Gold remains a humble and well-respected name in the radio industry as a true programmer and an avid music lover. His greatest award comes from working within the community from which he has also received countless awards for his civic duties. In 2005, Gold moved his family back to Houston TX. Gold is currently working as the host of Houston’s Hottest Radio weekend show, "Club Majic."

Gayle King and Charles Barkley are finalizing a deal that would have them jointly lead a primetime hour each week on CNN, according to people familiar with the matter and multiple news sources. The pact is not complete and there is always the risk it may not come to fruition, one of these people says. CNN declined to make executives available for comment.

Tavis Smiley owned Los Angeles talk station KBLA Talk 1580 donated $20,000 in scholarship money to the NABJLA and MPJI. Smiley says, “The National Association of Black Journalists of Los Angeles and the Minority Photo-Journalism Institute are making a tangible difference in our community by helping students pursue careers in journalism and communications. KBLA ‘Talk 1580’ strongly believes in enlightening, empowering and encouraging tomorrow’s reporters, editors and potential talk radio hosts. Hopefully, our scholarships make a difference.”

• WLBT anchor and meteorologist Barbie Bassett is no longer with the Jackson, Miss., NBC station after racially insensitive comments. In early March, Bassett was speaking with her fellow anchors on air about Snoop Dogg’s latest business venture, Snoop Cali Blanc, a new wine in his wine label. In response to a comment about putting a Snoop Dogg tattoo on her shoulder, Bassett said, “Fo shizzle, my nizzle.” Bassett is white. Charlamagne tha God defended Bassett as he discussed the situation on The Breakfast Club. “She might be old. She probably has no idea nizzle is a derivative of the N-word. That’s not a fireable offense. I hope she sues.”
