BET Hip Hop Awards Happened Last Night, You Will See It in Mid-October

Isn't it about time for Hip Hop to grow up and have one of the genre's top awards show air live on BET instead of being taped for a later broadcast? It's not like it's the 90's and this is a Source Awards show. Hip Hop has grown up.

Just witness the reaction to "The Kendrick Lamar Verse." There was no talk of violence against Kendrick. As far as twitter beef goes it has died down. The rap game's response was to go into the studio and come up with a verse just as clever and to get it out there to the public.

That's maturity.

OK. We get it. It's the performances! (Who's going to show up when they are suppose to.) The producers need time to delete words, edit acceptance speeches, and make it broadcast ready. Well, give pay-per-view a try. Maybe let Floyd Mayweather promote it. If something goes wrong...watch twitter explode.

The BET Hip Hop Awards taped in Atlanta will air on Oct. 15 with host Snoop Dogg.

One of the awards given out last night was presented to MC Lyte.

(ATLANTA via Huff Post) -- MC Lyte said she was initially nervous following a video tribute that honored the veteran rapper for her career achievements at the eighth annual BET Hip-Hop Awards Saturday.

Once MC Lyte gathered herself, she thanked a host of people who helped further her career. She urged the female rappers who have come after her to continue to shine and push the genre forward.

"Please keep the dream alive, I am with you," said MC Lyte, who was given the "I Am Hip-Hop Award" at the taped award show at the Boisfeuillet Jones Atlanta Civic Center.
