Radio One is re-introducing R&B music from the 90's and today back into rotation on KSOC 94.5 to the Dallas market. The station also returns to it's former name as KSoul. The station dropped current R&B music and exclusively played urban oldies as "Old School 94.5" in the Summer of 2011. Also before that transition midday host and former Salt-n-Pepa member Dee Dee
"Spinderella" Roper was fired. Perhaps the negativity from that event has affected the station's ratings as well.
KSoul looks to raise its ranking while competing with “K104” KKDA-FM and Urban AC station KRNB “Smooth R&B 105.7” KRNB.
The question remains if Radio One will tweak their other Old School stations across the country. Does Urban Oldies have the staying power to remain a financially viable format?
The trend has been in many markets with the Old School format is after initial excitement by listeners, which causes a bump, ratings tend to return to and skew downward to where the station was previously before the format change. It's been the case for KSoul.
Former imaging from KSOC FM....gone is Old School and now it's back to KSoul.
