WDAS FM, Power 99, and Smooth Jazz 'JJZ Announce 3K Breast Cancer Walk

WDAS FM, Power 99 and Smooth Jazz ‘JJZ Announce the Inaugural Philadelphia Sista Strut 3K Breast Cancer Walk
Presented by Cracker Barrel
Proceeds Will Benefit The American Association for Cancer Research

WDAS FM, Philly's Best R&B & Throwbacks, Power 99, Philadelphia's Hip Hop and R&B, and Smooth Jazz ‘JJZ 1480 will hold its inaugural Sista Strut 3K Breast Cancer Walk on Saturday, June 17 at Xfinity Live! in Philadelphia.  Proceeds will benefit The American Association for Cancer Research, the first and largest scientific organization in the world focused on every aspect of high-quality, innovative cancer research.

The walk aims to raise breast cancer awareness among African American women, who are 41 percent more likely to die from the disease than white women, making screenings and early detection crucial.  WDAS FM, Power 99 and Smooth Jazz ‘JJZ will promote Sista Strut on-air, as well as on the stations’ websites and social media pages. In addition, on-air personalities from all three stations will be on site to host the event.

“We are grateful for the generous contributions to support cancer research through Sista Strut,” said Mitch Stoller, executive director of the AACR Foundation. “Thanks to this exceptional effort and support of the community, the AACR will be able to help support the research needed to save more lives from cancer,” added Stoller.

Presented by Cracker Barrel, the Sista Strut rally will start at 8 a.m. and the walk will begin at 10 a.m.  The event is sponsored by Blessings4Ever Home Care, Forman Mills, The Philadelphia Recycling Office and The Tax Divas, a Division of Anita T. Conner & Associates P.C.

For approximately 20 years, Sista Strut has engaged thousands of women in various cities such as Detroit, Michigan; St. Louis, Missouri and Nashville, Tennessee.  To register and learn more about Sista Strut, listeners can go to wdasfm.com, power99.com or wjjz.com. More news...On Sunday 107.5 WBLS weekend host LaDawn Black announced she was moving on to a new opportunity and leaving the station. Black made a surprise return to radio this week at her old stomping grounds as a guest host on The AM Clique Morning Show this week on 92Q (WERQ-FM Baltimore). LaDawn hosted the very popular night show 'The Love Zone' until 2013 when she moved over to sister Adult R&B station Magic 95.9 as midday host.

iHeart's Power 99 (WUSL-FM Philadelphia) midday host Cappuchino exits the station. She's been with the station since 2012. 'Way Up with Angela Yee' is now heard on Power 99 as one of the 30 affiliates that carry the syndicated program across the country.

Questlove went to Instagram to celebrate the word “jawn” being recognized as an official word in the Merriam-Webster Dictionary. The dialectic term is native to his hometown. In Philadelphia and Eastern PA, “jawn” evolved as a variant of “joint,” originally denoting a place. “Jawn” has been used to describe almost anything that one need not or cannot give a specific name to. Suddenly jawn has become not cool to use.
