The Orlando Sentinel Profiles The Allstate Tom Joyner Family Reunion

The Annual Allstate Tom Joyner Family Reunion Weekend covers the Weekend Guide section of The Orlando Sentinel. It all takes place at the Gaylord Palms resort in Kissimmee, Florida this weekend.

Joyner explains why he hosts a weekend of broadcasts, concerts, and an Expo with speakers, activities for all ages, seminars and shopping that celebrates the African-American family.

“Things are always going to be tougher for the African-American families,” Joyner said. “That’s just the way it is. Am I hopeful things are getting better? That’s why we’re doing the family reunion, why we get on the air every day. To keep hope alive, we have to entertain and empower, we have to inform — that’s our combination. Education is key.”

With pride, radio host Tom Joyner contemplates the 15th anniversary of Party With a Purpose this Labor Day weekend.
“It’s a good feeling, especially now with all the problems that we have in the world,” he said. “To highlight the strength of family and the need for family, it feels great.”
Organizers expect 25,000 — the biggest crowd yet — at the 2017 Allstate Tom Joyner Family Reunion at the Gaylord Palms Resort in Kissimmee. The weekend offers celebrities, concerts and seminars.
“The message has always been to highlight African-American families’ needs and wants and to try to find solutions,” said the host of the nationally syndicated “Tom Joyner Morning Show.” “I think we do a real good job of it.”
