Chris Malone Exits The New 97.7 Boston's Number 1 for R&B

Chris Malone has exited iHeartRadio’s The New 97.7 (WKAF) Boston's #1 for R&B as Program Director. Malone was also the afternoon personality at the station. KJ Carson remains as the station's only full time on-air personality. He hosts the live local morning show. Back in March Kesha Monk exited the station as morning host on The Morning Wake Up.

Frankie Darcell of WDAS FM Philadelphia voice tracks the middays.

977_logo_hrz_pos_rgb-2The New 97.7 was launched by Entercom in 2017, making it the city's first Urban formatted station since Radio One sold 97.7 WILD-FM to Entercom in 2006. The format was changed to rock music.

Malone, 97.7's original program director, went to work to deliver a local air staff. The station was also consulted by veteran programmers Jay Dixon and Elroy Smith.

But a major radio ownership changed occurred in late 2017/early 2018 when Entercom merged with CBS Radio. Entercom also exchanged stations with iHeartMedia in Boston, Seattle, Richmond, VA and Chattanooga, TN. With 97.7 being one of those stations Entercom needed to divest itself of, it was now owned by iHeartMedia, a company known to make cuts to on-air staff and to streamline its programming. What's next for 97.7?

Could the syndicated Steve Harvey Morning Show, which is owned by iHeartMedia's syndication company Premiere Networks make a debut in Boston?

It's a possibility.

Recently however iHeartMedia dropped The Breakfast Club for the local “Ashlee & The New JAM’N Morning Show” on JAM'N 94.5. Stay tuned.

Nick Cannon has walked away from radio for the moment and has decided to end “Nick Cannon Radio” and “Cannon’s Countdown.” The shows were distributed by Skyview Networks and quietly went away in December. He is reportedly set to make a major media announcement in two weeks. Cannon's move necessitated 94.7 The Block (WXBK-FM New York) to hire Cipha Sounds to host middays.

A woman who is believed to be DJ Akademiks' girlfriend slammed a raw egg into his face and walked off angrily as he was live streaming. That's it. Google it. Perhaps it's something that should have happened long ago.
