Former Eagles DL Hollis Thomas Walks Away as Host on Sportsradio 94 WIP Over a Podcast

Racial discrimination? Hmmm... Hollis Thomas, the former Eagles defensive lineman, known to fans by the nickname “Tank,” said on sports radio host Josh Innes’ podcast that he was no longer employed by the station due to a dispute over his involvement with a podcast called 'Green Legion Radio.' As reported by the Philadelphia Inquirer.

According to Thomas, WIP program director Spike Eskin told him he was not allowed to continue appearing on the Green Legion Radio podcast because Entercom Communications considered it a conflict of interest.

Thomas also appeared on a competing morning show. Last October, Thomas made an appearance on the Preston & Steve Show on Beasley Broadcast Group's rock station 93.3 WMMR, which competes directly with 94 WIP's male 25-54 listeners.

Thomas also said WIP booked him in April for a future promotional appearance, but claimed he wasn’t provided with the details until the last minute and was unavailable. “They said if I don’t show up to the appearance, then my employment is in jeopardy,” Thomas said on The Josh Innes Show podcast. “I said, ‘Okay, bye.’ "

“I am part time,” Thomas said, defending the idea he would have side gigs to pull in money. “Don’t act like you all-in on Hollis Thomas. Because if you’re not all-in with me, I’m not all-in with you!”

Thomas also suggested a racial component to his firing.

"I could sue for discrimination because I am the only black guy up there .. and it looks real bad when you single out the one black guy who's just trying to make a little bit of cheese."

Perhaps in his haste to get his story out there on the Josh Innes podcast, Hollis may have forgotten that his former teammate Ike Reese, host afternoons at the station. Still Reese remains the only fulltime African American host on the station. Innes, who is white, told Thomas not to sue because it would be a bad look for him.

Thomas didn't completely dismiss the idea.

Racial discrimination? Not really.

Josh Innes, who has mostly worked in the Houston market is also a former 94 WIP Sportsradio host as well. He was fired for a radio rant and tweet that went completely left in response to a bit, with a stereotypical racial component, on another sports station in Philadelphia, 97.5 The Fanatic in 2016. Here's the back story.

Innes response on Twitter ultimately led up to the end of his controversial and short-lived career in Philadelphia sports radio.
