Jammin' 96.9 and the Tom Joyner Morning Show Launches in Wilmington, Delaware

Forever Media has dropped the music programming on Gospel station 'Faith 1510' AM (licensed to nearby Salem, NJ) in favor of a new Urban Adult Contemporary R&B station, Jammin' 96.9. The station will also be heard on the FM translator 96.9 W245CJ in Wilmington, Delaware. (1510 AM goes off the air at sundown.) Although both stations are located about 30 miles outside of Philly, their signals do not reach the Philadelphia market.

On the other hand, the much bigger signal of iHeartRadio's 105.3 WDAS FM, is very popular in Delaware and has, at times, been rated as the number one station in Wilmington. It's so popular that WDAS regularly holds Saturday night live club broadcasts and other promotional events in the Wilmington area.

Jammin' 96.9 will not only compete with WDAS but with Radio One's 100.3 WRNB as well. The station will add Reach Media's The Tom Joyner Morning Show for the final two months of its run. No word yet if they will carry the new Rickey Smiley Morning Show in 2020.

Program Director Jay Nyce talks about the transition.

In an interview with radio station 1150 AM and 101.7 WDEL, Florence Joyce, General Sales Manager for Forever Media-Wilmington said "I'm over-the-top excited. I don't think I can contain myself. Everyone here at Forever is all about Jammin' 96.9."

The idea for an urban adult-contemporary station Wilmington could call its own, without having to tune in to stations broadcasting out of Philadelphia, was something Joyce has been focused on since she started working at the station. (Report from WDEL)
