Jackie Paige Joins 93.9 WKYS for Middays

Jackie Paige is named the new midday personality and Music Director for WKYS-FM/Washington, DC beginning Monday, January 6. She joins the Radio One Urban outlet form co-owned WCDX-FM/Richmond, VA, where she served in similar duties. Paige was born and raised in the Queen City of Charlotte, NC. Her love for radio began as a teenager and led to her pursuit of a degree in broadcast journalism at Hampton University, where she also served as a personality on the university's radio station.

"I'm truly excited and honored to be joining the WKYS team," said Paige. "I'd like to thank Jeff Wilson, Marsha Landess, Kashon Powell, Mike Swift, Matt Myers, and my entire Radio One family for their support. It's been an amazing ride in the 804 and the journey continues in the DMV."

"We are extremely excited to welcome Jackie Paige to the Radio One DC programming staff. She possesses a positive attitude and work ethic that simply can't be taught. She's an ideal fit for Radio One DC, and we are excited to have her join the team," said Radio One Vice President of Programming Kashon Powell.

WKYS Program Director Mike "Swift" Powell added, "I am pleased to add Jackie Paige to the WKYS Line-up. Her energy will be a welcomed addition to our team, and we look forward to creating compelling multi-platform content in middays."

Paige has a heart for her community and has volunteered with several well-known organizations, including Girl Scouts, The Make-A-Wish Foundation, Coastal Carolina Women's Shelter, Teach for America and Big Brothers Big Sisters. She's also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.

Jackie Paige takes over middays for Dominique Da Diva who is now heard in the afternoons on WKYS and 92Q with DJ Quicksilva.

Tavis Smiley owned Los Angeles talk station KBLA Talk 1580 donated $20,000 in scholarship money to the NABJLA and MPJI. Smiley says, “The National Association of Black Journalists of Los Angeles and the Minority Photo-Journalism Institute are making a tangible difference in our community by helping students pursue careers in journalism and communications. • WLBT anchor and meteorologist Barbie Bassett is no longer with the Jackson, Miss., NBC station after racially insensitive comments. In early March, Bassett was speaking with her fellow anchors on air about Snoop Dogg’s latest business venture, Snoop Cali Blanc, a new wine in his wine label. In response to a comment about putting a Snoop Dogg tattoo on her shoulder, Bassett said, “Fo shizzle, my nizzle.” Bassett is white. Charlamagne tha God defended Bassett as he discussed the situation on The Breakfast Club. “She might be old. She probably has no idea nizzle is a derivative of the N-word. That’s not a fireable offense. I hope she sues.”
