A VIRTUAL EVENING OF MOTIVATION AND HOPE

Reach Media and Radio One are set to deliver a rich entertainment experience to the community, listeners, front-line workers and first responders that will take place from the safety and comfort of their own digital devices.

“The Night of Inspiration at its essence is about taking an inspirational moment and turning that into hours, days, weeks, and years of positive action during these unprecedented times. In this COVID-19 climate of social distancing and limited gatherings, we’re coming to people where they are, right in the living room, by bringing a spectacular night of entertainment to uplift, edify, and renew us all as agents of change,“ added Gary Bond, Executive Vice President of Business Affairs and Entertainment.

Hosted by Erica Campbell, Willie Moore Jr., and Darlene McCoy, Reach’s very own radio personalities, will host the virtual event featuring performances by Grammy award winning recording artist, author, music executive and actor Lecrae, Grammy award winning artist, pastor and inspirational leader Hezekiah Walker, 3 time Grammy nominated singer, songwriter, and author Jekalyn Carr, and multi-award winning songwriter, producer and recording artist Charles Jenkins, as well as  highlighting “inspired moments” from those who lived them.

First Responders will also get an opportunity to win a coveted performance spot and have their performance broadcast during the event along with the opportunity to have a single produced by renowned Producer Warryn Campbell from My Block Records.

Tavis Smiley owned Los Angeles talk station KBLA Talk 1580 donated $20,000 in scholarship money to the NABJLA and MPJI. Smiley says, “The National Association of Black Journalists of Los Angeles and the Minority Photo-Journalism Institute are making a tangible difference in our community by helping students pursue careers in journalism and communications. KBLA ‘Talk 1580’ strongly believes in enlightening, empowering and encouraging tomorrow’s reporters, editors and potential talk radio hosts. Hopefully, our scholarships make a difference.”

• WLBT anchor and meteorologist Barbie Bassett is no longer with the Jackson, Miss., NBC station after racially insensitive comments. In early March, Bassett was speaking with her fellow anchors on air about Snoop Dogg’s latest business venture, Snoop Cali Blanc, a new wine in his wine label. In response to a comment about putting a Snoop Dogg tattoo on her shoulder, Bassett said, “Fo shizzle, my nizzle.” Bassett is white. Charlamagne tha God defended Bassett as he discussed the situation on The Breakfast Club. “She might be old. She probably has no idea nizzle is a derivative of the N-word. That’s not a fireable offense. I hope she sues.”
