Donnie Simpson Talks Radio on Zoom Chat with Sybil Wilkes

Donnie Simpson, the legendary Washington, D.C. radio personality appeared on Sybil Wilkes daily podcast and reflected on his illustrious career in broadcasting. Sybil has featured many of her former co-workers and guests from The Tom Joyner Morning Show on her podcast including Tom, J. Anthony Brown, George Wallace, Huggy Lowdown, and Chris Paul. Stephen Hill, the former head of BET programming is a frequent guest as well.

This podcast was unique in the sense that Donnie and Sybil only worked together for one week in January 2018, when he sat in during one of Tom's vacation weeks. We have to admit that Donnie looks very good at 66 years old and those guns are blazing. He revealed quite a few things including a commitment to a workout regiment during the quarantine.

This was a great interview. By the way Reach Media and Radio One are under-utilizing the talents of one Sybil Wilkes.

After this interview, we now know why Donnie appeared on the BET Awards 2020 with a hat on.

Many know Donnie Simpson from his time at BET as host of Video Soul. He made a name for himself nationally. But during this interview Donnie talked about his days starting off in radio in his hometown of Detroit at 15 years old before arriving in Washington, D.C. He also told a great story about Elton John's song "Bennie and the Jets."

Donnie Simpson is the afternoon host on Majic 102.3/92.7 with his co-host Tony Perkins. Many may remember Tony as the weather forecaster on ABC's Good Morning America. As it turns out Tony was Donnie's producer and co-host many years ago at WKYS before his national fame.

Donnie Simpson is a nominee for the Radio Hall of Fame, an organization based in Chicago. We agree with him when he said he doesn't need that accolade to validate him. This is the second time he has been nominated. Fan voting begins Monday, July 27, however the category that features Donnie Simpson is not open for public online voting.

(If Frankie Crocker is not in there, then you have to question the validity of that organization.)
