Krystal Pino New Midday Host 97.5 The Vibe Tucson

CUMULUS MEDIA announces that it has appointed radio personality Krystal Pino as On-Air Host, Midday Drive, for Cumulus Tucson Classic Hip Hop station 97.5 The Vibe/KSZR-FM. Pino’s broadcasting career has spanned nearly two decades, and she has been heard on stations across Arizona and Colorado. Pino debuts today on 97.5 The Vibe and will be heard Monday through Saturday from 10:00am-2:00pm.

Pino holds a B.S. in Mass Communication from Colorado State University-Pueblo. She is also a stand-up comic, and has opened for names like Paul Mooney and Felipe Esparza. Pino also hosts a weekly lifestyle and entertainment Vlogcast called Candidly Krystal with Crystal Stark. The Vlogcast supports local and highlighting entertainers who have been grounded due to the pandemic and airs weekly on YouTube, Twitch, and Facebook Live. Pino is a Silver Mic recipient, receiving the prestigious award from Colorado State University-Pueblo in May of 2005. She worked as a Girls Inc. Ambassador for Girls Inc. Denver from 2010-2012 and hosted the “Miracle Party: A Magical Night for Kids with Cancer” from 2010-2015.

Buzz Jackson, Program Director, 97.5 The Vibe/KSZR-FM, said: “We’ve wanted Krystal to be a part of the Vibe team for a long time, and we’re lucky that all the right stars and planets finally aligned so we could get it done!”

Krystal Pino remarked: “I am excited to be back under the Cumulus umbrella, as my time at Westwood One was among my favorite! Buzz is a great PD and has always been someone in the industry I trust and admire. I have missed my Tucson listeners and cannot wait to find a vibe in middays for 97.5! I hope you’ll join me Monday through Saturday, 10am-2pm.”

Gayle King and Charles Barkley are finalizing a deal that would have them jointly lead a primetime hour each week on CNN, according to people familiar with the matter and multiple news sources. The pact is not complete and there is always the risk it may not come to fruition, one of these people says. CNN declined to make executives available for comment.

Tavis Smiley owned Los Angeles talk station KBLA Talk 1580 donated $20,000 in scholarship money to the NABJLA and MPJI. Smiley says, “The National Association of Black Journalists of Los Angeles and the Minority Photo-Journalism Institute are making a tangible difference in our community by helping students pursue careers in journalism and communications. KBLA ‘Talk 1580’ strongly believes in enlightening, empowering and encouraging tomorrow’s reporters, editors and potential talk radio hosts. Hopefully, our scholarships make a difference.”

• WLBT anchor and meteorologist Barbie Bassett is no longer with the Jackson, Miss., NBC station after racially insensitive comments. In early March, Bassett was speaking with her fellow anchors on air about Snoop Dogg’s latest business venture, Snoop Cali Blanc, a new wine in his wine label. In response to a comment about putting a Snoop Dogg tattoo on her shoulder, Bassett said, “Fo shizzle, my nizzle.” Bassett is white. Charlamagne tha God defended Bassett as he discussed the situation on The Breakfast Club. “She might be old. She probably has no idea nizzle is a derivative of the N-word. That’s not a fireable offense. I hope she sues.”
