Roland Martin Tells the Story of His CNN Colin Powell Interview Being Taken From Him and Given to Wolf Blitzer

Roland Martin has put the work in at several news outlet including CNN and TV One. He became a political news force many years ago working in newspaper and radio in Chicago at WVON. After the show News One Now was cut by TV One, Martin launched his own show "Roland Martin: Unfiltered" which can be seen daily on YouTube. Martin is also featured on iHeartMedia's BIN: The Black Information Network on radio.

Roland Martin recounts the time he persuaded Gen. Colin Powell to come on air with him on CNN. His point: Being in charge of your own media is so important. (In the clip below, Martin's mic went silent when things got too Black.)

"The 2009 @barackobama inauguration was over and it was COLD. But I convinced Gen. Colin Powell to come on @CNN to talk about that historic day. It was NOT easy! Got him in the chair and then the producers asked me to step out and let @wolfblitzer do the interview! I was literally sitting right next to Powell ready to go. Man, I was HOT! When Powell left, so did I. Took off my mic and earpiece and told the on-site producer to tell the DC control room I was done. I then went over to the @tvonetv rooftop setup two blocks away and did the next few hours there. See why #BlackOwnedMediaMatters?! 👊🏾👊🏾👊🏾 RIP, Gen. Powell. Photo credit: Roland S. Martin Archives"

Roland Martin eventually secured his own interview with Gen. Colin Powell in 2011.
