CBS 46 WGCL-TV Atlanta is Rebranding as “Atlanta News First” WANF-TV

The Atlanta area CBS affiliate known as CBS 46 WGCL-TV and sister station Peachtree TV WPCH-TV are rebranding their newscasts to become Atlanta News First. WGCL will change call letters to become WANF-TV.

The news comes less than a year after Atlanta based Gray Television finalized its purchase of Meredith Corporation’s 17 stations. It's Gray's first time owning a station in Atlanta in 28 years. Since then, Gray has added more than 50 jobs at WGCL-WPCH in news, marketing, technology and sales—and said it is still hiring.

In the press release announcing the move, VP and GM Erik Schrader said the following:

“The people of Northern Georgia deserve a better, community-focused local news service on all platforms,” said Schrader. “This is the start of something new that will benefit Atlanta and its surrounding communities for years to come.”

Updated post: 10/3/22 Behind the scenes of Atlanta News First:

“Atlanta News First is a commitment to Atlanta and the people who make this such an incredible place to live,” said news director Kim Saxon. “We aim to empower our audience every day through impactful local journalism, reliable weather and traffic—and a connection to our community. We believe in celebrating what is great about our city, and we are invested in doing our part to make it better.”

For some reason this new branding reminds us of a logo we've seen before...

More news...On Sunday 107.5 WBLS weekend host LaDawn Black announced she was moving on to a new opportunity and leaving the station. Black made a surprise return to radio this week at her old stomping grounds as a guest host on The AM Clique Morning Show this week on 92Q (WERQ-FM Baltimore). LaDawn hosted the very popular night show 'The Love Zone' until 2013 when she moved over to sister Adult R&B station Magic 95.9 as midday host.

iHeart's Power 99 (WUSL-FM Philadelphia) midday host Cappuchino exits the station. She's been with the station since 2012. 'Way Up with Angela Yee' is now heard on Power 99 as one of the 30 affiliates that carry the syndicated program across the country.

Questlove went to Instagram to celebrate the word “jawn” being recognized as an official word in the Merriam-Webster Dictionary. The dialectic term is native to his hometown. In Philadelphia and Eastern PA, “jawn” evolved as a variant of “joint,” originally denoting a place. “Jawn” has been used to describe almost anything that one need not or cannot give a specific name to. Suddenly jawn has become not cool to use.
