WKYS Hires Former BET Host Shorty Da Prince to replace Industry Vet Coka Lani

Bow Wow, Paigion, Miss. Mykie, and Shorty Da Prince
The big announcement this morning on 93.9 WKYS in D.C. was the addition of rapper, radio host and former 106 & Park host Shorty Da Prince to do evenings from 7 PM to midnight. KYS moves Angie Ange from nights to afternoon drive and EZ Street goes to middays from 10 AM to 3 PM following the Russ Parr Morning Show.

Shorty was part of a four person crew that BET chose to replace Terrence J and Rocsi Diaz on the once popular 106 & Park weekday music show in 2012. The new hosts chosen from a contest didn't maintain the ratings of the show and the decline caused BET to swap new hosts in and out in hopes of finding a winning formula and a winning team. Shorty Da Prince was out of the hosting chair permanently one year after his hire. Today only Bow Wow remains as a host on the show. Shorty Da Prince has hosted radio shows on Radio One's Detroit Hot 107.5, St. Louis Hot 104.1, and most recently in May at Cleveland's Z 107.9 where he replaced Colby Colb to do afternoons.

The causality in this line-up change is industry veteran Coka-Lani Kimborough. Coka-Lani the former midday host has had career stops at 95.5 WPGC in the DC as well as in Baltimore, Philadelphia, Miami, and Tampa.

Here's Shorty's thoughts right after his firing from BET
